I believe that art not only serves as a reflection of life, but as a direction for life as well. Through a combination of line and color, the picture plane possesses the power to transport, elevate, and enlighten the viewer. In my pursuit of constructing such a vision of transcendence I sought to capture the ephemeral through the everyday.
My work explores the multiplicity and multidimensionality of perception. I photograph windows and curtains to explore the dichotomy between inside and outside, and the relationship between the concealed and the visible. In my photos, windows act as conduits of light, filters through which to view the world, and a means of escape into the unknown. The modular images capture the complexity of color and texture in day-to-day life, and are composed holistically into a grid system. Through fragmentation and reconstruction, I seek to transform the representational into the abstract. These fleeting moments form a delicate latticework that simultaneously evoke the unique individuality of each photo and the sense of unity as a whole. In their assemblage I sought to communicate a feeling of collective awareness through visions of harmonic reciprocity.
